Meanwhile, with the revelation that Calvin Eskridge, Elaine Pelfry, and Leonard Wright are all connected to Delta Black, talking to Cassidy Calvert-Downes has become priority 1 for the team. While Zero hunts down a lead to get a meeting set up with her, Switch talks to Wesley to find out what his estranged wife is like. Sundog, meanwhile, runs into Lehmann and figures out the perfect way to get back at him.

"This may very well be the scariest thing we've done so far. At least, to me, anyway. When I'm behind the safety of Big Wheel I'm far more comfortable. Walking around without it seems... wrong, somehow. Is this how everybody feels all the time? Disgusting.
I still say we should have gone when there were less people. We've shown to be an extremely well-oiled machine, so to speak, in our mechs, I'm sure we could handle a few extra robots that the Mudkickers throw at us. Alas, I was outvoted, and so here we are. At least the show after the mission will be good, no matter what time of day it is."

Despite it being a quick trip to them, months have passed in Halcyon without the Trendsetters. Blackmoore is in a scandal, Lehmann has moved next door to Felix, and the Groundbreakers are doing well in spreading the word of their parent group. Zero finds out what has happened in its absence with the NC-12 project from Jen. Young Gary heads to the SCS and, after overhearing something he probably shouldn't have heard, is tasked with finding the months-absent Sam. Felix gets back in touch with Tiffany, and after a bit of a talk they decide to keep trying the dating thing. Switch makes sure their people are all safe, both in Lovelace and Felix, then talks to Calvert, who reveals that two things: One, a suit's worth of Vinterium has been stolen, and two, he's interested in grander things thanks to Switch's prodding.

One old, abandoned, and very nearly empty. There, they meet the Mentor and the newly named Author and work to save the latter from their own power. They also work to make sure this never happens again, but things go off the rails, and they have to save one of their own from themselves...

With the Captainalist reaching a low-point, Young Gary is led to the next step of the plans of the Second Chance Society alone. Zero works with Chris Hartwick to continue to make Prima's living quarters as comfortable as possible. After that, it and Sundog go to talk to Calvert about returning the Vinterium they got from the casino back to Hell. Switch deals with the DHEA's brain chip, and with Zero's help, discover something shocking about it that could lead back to a Kestoran plot. However, before they can finish, Old Gary has finished his preparations to save Lovelace.
